The Irish Property Owners Association has recommended that tenants immediately report sexual harassment or inappropriate behaviour from their landlords to gardaí.
The IPOA statement comes after “sex for rent” was raised in the Dáil yesterday.
Solidarity TD Ruth Coppinger said a young woman had been asked by a landlord to move in with him and in return, he would reduce her rent.
In text messages he said it would be free for money but “maybe something else???”.
When she asked if she was being serious, he said yes.
The text messages, which were read out in the Dáil by Deputy Coppinger went on to say that the tenant knew he thought she was beautiful and she could not blame him for trying.
Speaking to RTÉ News ‘Laura’ said she was shocked when she received the texts and she “felt like a sexual object”.
