Housing charity Threshold has called on the Irish Government to implement an immediate extension of the eviction ban and rent freeze put in place to protect tenants during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Government moratorium on rent increases and evictions is due to expire on June 27.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Threshold asserted that tenants are facing rent arrears and extreme anxiety as the public health crisis continues, and cited figures released by the Residential Tenancies Board showing that rents throughout Ireland increased further in the last quarter of 2019.
