As the saying goes, “Every cloud . . .”, and for the Irish tourism industry there’s a silvery tinge to the strict international travel and quarantine restrictions that are keeping most us on native soil this year.
It’s unprecedented to dedicate our entire travel section, at the height of summer, exclusively to domestic breaks, but this is the new normal. This year is the summer of the staycation, which for some will mean making begrudging peace with unpredictable weather, indoor swimming pools, soggy bags of fish and chips, and higher prices than you’d pay in a Greek taverna or Spanish tapas bar.
