The largest daily increase in Covid-19 cases across the world was recorded yesterday.
A further two people diagnosed with Covid-19 in Ireland have died.
An additional four people have also tested positive for the virus, the Department of Health confirmed this evening.
It brings the country’s death toll to 1,714 while the total number of known cases in Ireland now stands at 25,383.
The latest figures also show that no new cases have been recorded locally.
As of Saturday, the total number of positive tests in counties Meath and Louth is 807 and 780 respectively.
The State’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Tony Holohan has said: “Yesterday, more than 183,000 new cases of COVID-19 were reported globally, the most in a single day according to the WHO.”
“In Ireland, in the last 14 days over a third of new confirmed cases are in young people under the age of 35.
