The HSE is in talks over ending its lease of the Citywest hotel and conference centre in late October, the earliest it can get out of a €21m contract.
The hotel, one of the largest in the country, was taken over by the HSE for use as a Covid isolation centre in a contract initially costing €25m. This ends in October with the option of extending it for two months. The HSE says it has been able to reduce the bill to €21m because of VAT rebates.
Health authorities agreed to pay a rate of €142.50 a night at the 756-bedroom hotel, which has had as few as 26 occupants of late. The deal included almost €2m rent for the convention centre, where a 300-bed
