New eviction freeze bill branded 'attack on renters' by opposition TDs – Irish Mirror

A new bill to freeze evictions of tenants left cash-strapped by the pandemic has been branded “an attack on renters”.

The law was brought to the Dail on Tuesday by new Housing Minister Darragh O’Brien.

It will replace a blanket ban on evictions and rent hikes with one limited to tenants who have lost income due to Covid-19.

However opposition TDs blasted it as full of loopholes for landlords and claimed it will result in a new wave of family homelessness in the midst of the virus crisis.
