It can take up to 15 years to save a deposit for a mortgage in Dublin and other urban areas around Ireland, a report has found.
The report, published yesterday by the Irish Home Builders Association (IHBA), also sets out a series of recommendations for the government to assist in the construction of homes.
Using data in relation to average earnings and the cost of housing, it found that it can take up to 15 years to save for a deposit in Dublin and other urban areas. This compared with a low of 1.7 years in Kilkenny, while a period of six years was common in many counties, including Clare, Kildare and Louth.
