Irish holidaymakers who obey the government’s advice to take a staycation are finding the cost of self-catering rental accommodation has soared at the most popular coastal destinations in the west of Ireland.
A Sunday Times survey of properties advertised as “three-bed rentals” in August has found one in Clifden, Co Galway, that charges between €447 and €699 a night, with the price varying across the month.
The property has two bedrooms and two bathrooms and is billed as being able to accommodate up to six guests. It costs approximately €3,700 a week to rent, which includes a €40 cleaning fee and a €550 service charge, which goes to Airbnb.
