‘So much for an “Ireland of equals”‘ — Leo Varadkar says Sinn Fein has no place for ‘white, middle class men’ – Extra.ie

Tanaiste Leo Varadkar has slammed Sinn Fein for what he has described as their exclusionary attitude towards white, middle-class men.

Mr Varadkar’s criticism follows video footage posted on Twitter by Fine Gael senator Barry Ward on August 2, which shows Mr Ward responding to comments made by Sinn Fein senator Lynn Boylan about the inability of white, middle-class men to understand what it is like for members of other demographics to go before the Irish Courts.

Mr Ward, the Seanad spokesperson on Justice and a practising barrister, tweeted: ‘I’m disappointed by the attitude from Sinn Fein that a “white, middle class man”, even one who has spent his professional life defending accused persons, couldn’t possibly understand what it is like for some people to go before the Courts.
