Dawn to Dusk walk could be a great light for SOSAD charity – Drogheda Independent

An ingenious concept by Dromin publican Ken Byrne could prove a rewarding fundraising blueprint for local charity SOSAD.

Ken’s Village Saloon in the mid Louth hamlet staged a ‘Dawn to Dusk’ walk for the charity and raised over €8,000.

Carol West, General Manager of SOSAD Ireland said events like the Dromin fundraiser are the ‘lifeblood’ of the organisation.

‘The money raised that day will pay the rent on the Drogheda office for eight months,’ she stated.

She has spoken to Ken about using the idea in other areas, especially in COVID times.

The day began at 5.30am with up to 16 hardy souls setting off on the 7km walk down the Castlebellingham road and back.

After that, over 300 followed at various times with the last finishing at 9.30pm. Families and individuals and clubs all took part.

‘It was a brilliant success,’ Ken stated. The event raised €8,213.
