John Delaney splashed almost €1m of the FAI’s cash on items including hotels, limousines, jewellery and online shopping, it has been revealed.
Champagne Football, a new book serialised in The Sunday Times, lifted the lid on Delaney’s lavish spending sprees during his last five years as chief executive at the organisation.
An unpublished accountants’ report revealed the FAI also footed Delaney’s €316,000 legal bills for defamation cases taken after the Olympic Games ticketing scandal in 2016.
Kosi Corporation, an accounting firm based in Newry, Co Down, were hired by Sport Ireland to investigate the FAI’s finances, The Sunday Times reports.
Their report was never published but was instead forwarded to Gardai and the Office of the Director of Corporate Enforcement (ODCE) last November.
