Median house prices in Cork city were at their highest in a decade, pushed up by stock shortages and strong demand. First-time buyers dominated the market, as the help-to-buy scheme proved irresistible to those who had been renting.
Rents remain high, despite the city being in a pressure zone. A new four-bedroom semi fetched up to €2,000 a month. Meanwhile, the average time for a property to go sale-agreed was nearly four months, compared with more than five-and-a-half months elsewhere in the county. On the northside of Cork city, you could expect to pay €249,500, while the median price in the southside was higher at €290,000.
