There are fears of a surge in evictions after the Government ban was removed following four months of lockdown.

he moratorium on evictions ended yesterday following a grace period of 10 days after the 5km restriction was lifted on April 12.

While some protections still remain in place for tenants, housing groups fear there will now be a spike in homeless figures and are urging the ban to be reinstated until the pandemic ends.

Dozens of people protested in Dun Laoghaire in Dublin on Thursday as up to eight tenants are facing eviction from apartments in St Helen’s Court.

People Before Profit TD, Richard Boyd Barrett – whose constituency office is directly across the road from the apartments – says some of the people impacted include senior citizens, people who are unwell and people with children.
