We seem to have a rent free-for-all, despite three-quarters of the country being covered by caps on rents under rent-pressure-zone legislation.
The latest rent index from the regulator, the Residential Tenancies Board (RTB), shows that rents shot up by 7pc in the April-to-June period.
Shocking but not surprising is probably the best way to describe the latest index figures.
The 7pc annual rise in rents nationally is way above the 4pc permitted under the rent-pressure-zone rules that were in place up to the summer.
